RADIO TALK
What have you been up to recently?
Been keeping as busy as possible! Besides the never ending hunt for new music, I’ve been planning and recording a few online mixes for mix series around the globe (including a recent one for the Doing Time show on NTS Radio, London), digitizing some records from the collection and lots of cooking! Also been doing a couple courses related to my day job to make the résumé a bit shinier.
Can you tell us a little bit about your inspiration for the mix?
I wanted to keep within the Disco territory as well a warm and summery feel (in line with the incoming warmer weather). ‘Disco’ is a pretty broad term for me, so I like to cross the various styles, eras and time-zones that fall within (or came from) the genre. My record collection covers music from all over so I tried to keep it very much on the worldly / tropical tip. The mix is also what you could expect to hear me playing in a bar or restaurant these days or that early set in a club (when that’s possible again).
How have you felt about DJing and digging for new tunes over Covid?
Obviously the opportunities to DJ have diminished since March, and are slowly starting to come back now, but I have really missed the regular shows as it is one of my favourite things to do. Digging has still been a constant (albeit with a few financial constraints during this period), but club music has taken a back seat to more chilled and interesting styles. Oh and international shipping has been stressful to say the least!
Have you had any big shifts in your life over this crazy time?
Well the wife and I expecting a baby early next year! It doesn't get much bigger than that I guess :o
Anywhere we can see you DJ soon?
Currently on rotation at the following spots; Freda’s Bar, Alberto’s Lounge on Sundays and Paramount House for their Saturday arvo roof top Markets. All big tips to check out as lots of other great DJ’s are there most weeks.
Annnnd what your favourite Fishbowl dish?
It’s a close call between the Wabi-Sabi and the Meru Miso Eggplant!
